Common questions
SizeFit says my file can’t be opened
SizeFit reads the formats macOS supports natively: MP4, MOV and M4V. MKV, AVI and WebM aren’t supported by Apple’s AVFoundation. Convert them first (for example with HandBrake), then drop the converted file into SizeFit.
SizeFit says it can’t fit my video under the limit
When even 480p would need too few bits to be watchable, SizeFit stops instead of exporting an unwatchable file. Trim the video, choose a larger limit, or share a link instead.
The verification slip is red
The slip lists what failed (for example missing audio or a duration mismatch). Use the option to re-encode with safe settings (H.264 video + AAC audio) to try again. If it still fails, email us the slip text.
Where did my compressed file go?
To your Downloads folder by default, named “original-name-sizefit.mp4”. With Pro you can choose another default folder. Use “Show in Finder” on the finished item.
Is my original file safe?
Yes. SizeFit only reads it; it never modifies, replaces or deletes the file you drop in.
How do I unlock Pro on my other devices?
Pro is one purchase for Mac, iPhone and iPad. On another device, open SizeFit and use Restore Purchase (in Settings or on the Pro screen) while signed in to the App Store with the same Apple Account you bought it with.
Where are my compressed videos on iPhone or iPad?
In the Files app under On My iPhone (or iPad) › SizeFit. You can also tap Share or Save to Photos on any finished video.
A preset’s size limit is out of date
Let us know — presets are updated from presets.json without an app update. Current values are listed on Size limits.
